2015 Ford F-150 Aluminum Body

The New Aluminum-bodied F-150 Up To 20% More Fuel Efficient

The new aluminum-bodied F-150 is getting a lot of attention lately. Not only is it completely redesigned and more attractive than ever, the new aluminum body construction makes it lighter and up to 20% more fuel-efficient compared to previous models. The official EPA fuel economy ratings were announced recently, and as expected the all new F-150 shows up with great numbers. No other gasoline-powered full-size truck is more fuel efficient or more capable than the 2015 Ford F-150.

The F-150 equipped with Ford’s all-new 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 engine achieves an overall combined rating of 22 MPG, with a class-leading 26 MPG on the highway. The only full-sized truck that gets better fuel economy is the diesel-powered Ram pickup at 28 highway MPG – but there’s a $4,000 premium for that engine. And when you add in the higher cost of diesel fuel, the new F-150 looks like even more of a bargain.

Lighter Weight, But Stronger Than Ever

Although the body of the new 2015 F-150 is constructed primarily from military grade aluminum-alloy, the ladder-framed chassis is made using more high strength steel than ever before. This adds up to greater strength, but less overall weight. The combination actually serves to lower the total weight of the truck by up to 700 pounds, contributing to better performance and its improved fuel efficiency. An added benefit is the ability of the new 3.5-liter V6 engine to be offered in an F-150 crew cab for the first time.

Advantages of new F-150 materials and construction techniques:

  • Reduced vehicle weight for improved fuel efficiency
  • Greater towing and payload capacities
  • Improved power-to-weight ratio for faster acceleration
  • Enhanced responsiveness and improved braking
