Ford Safety Features

Ford Motor Company has long been known for introducing innovative new safety features into the cars, trucks and SUVs they make. That’s why it should come as no surprise that Ford vehicles are some of the safest on the road. At Athens Ford it’s our goal to make sure our family, friends and neighbors in Athens, Jefferson, Gainesville, Lawrenceville, Winder and all over are as safe as possible when driving on our North Georgia roads. That’s why we’ve put together this list of the best Ford safety features that you’ll find on the vehicles we sell. It’s just part of our commitment to keeping you and your family safe!

Vehicle Safety Systems

Advance Trac® with Roll Stability Control. This safety system uses gyroscopic sensors to monitor the front-to-back orientation and the roll rate of the vehicle. This allows for better control in adverse road conditions and when the system detects under- or over-steering.

Curve Control. This is part of the Advance Trac® and RSC system that detects when the vehicle is going into a curve at too great a rate of speed. If the system detects that the vehicle is going too fast for a curve, it can slow it down by up to 10 miles per hour.

Blind Spot Information System (BLIS). This system uses multiple-beam radar sensors in the rear quarter-panels to detect traffic as it enters the vehicle’s blind spot. An indicator light on the corresponding side-view mirror will illuminate if there is a hazard in either the left or right side blind spot.

Adaptive Cruise Control. This is a radar sensor system that can monitor the distance and speed of a vehicle ahead and adjust the speed of your car automatically. It will slow the vehicle to restore a pre-set distance and will resume speed when the traffic clears. The driver can set distance, speed and time gap between vehicles to control the function of this safety feature.

Cross-traffic Alert Rear Sensors. When backing out of a parking spot or driveway, the Cross-traffic Alert system will alert drivers to traffic approaching within 45 feet and traveling at least 5 MPH. If detected, the indicator lights up in the side-view mirror, an audible alert sounds, and a warning is displayed on the monitor.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Each year thousands of accidents are caused by improperly inflated tires. Ford’s tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) notifies the driver when air pressure is low in any of the vehicle’s tires. This system not only helps to prevent accidents, but can extend the life of your car’s tires.

Occupant Safety Systems

Safety Canopy® System. Ford vehicles equipped with the Safety Canopy® System use a rollover sensor combined with the airbags to protect the head and neck of passengers in case of a rollover accident. The airbags in this system stay inflated for up to several seconds after they deploy, unlike standard airbags which deflate almost immediately. This helps to ensure the vehicle is no longer in motion before the airbags deflate.

Ford MyKey Driving Options. The programmable MyKey systems allows parents to set restrictions on certain functions for young adult drivers. Some of these restrictions include top speed settings, seat belt reminder, audio volume settings and earlier low-fuel warning.

Inflatable Safety Belts. In vehicles equipped with Ford’s inflatable safety belt system, the outside rear seat passengers are protected by self-inflating seatbelts when the crash sensing system detects a collision. When inflated, the belt helps to distribute the force over a wider area and reduces the strain on the passenger’s body. Under normal conditions it operates as a standard safety belt.

Dual-stage Airbags. Ford’s dual-stage airbags deploy at different levels, depending on the severity of the crash. These work in conjunction with Ford’s Restraint Control Module to deliver the necessary amount of protection based on conditions.

Knee Airbags. The driver is protected by an airbag that deploys at knee-level in the event of a front collision. This is one of up to seven airbags in equipped Ford vehicles.

A Commitment to Safety

With every new Ford car, truck and SUV introduced, the list of available safety features grows. Ford is committed to building the safest vehicles on the road, protecting not only Ford owners and their families but other drivers as well. At Athens Ford, we want our friends and neighbors in the greater Athens area to be as safe as possible; which is why we’re promoting Ford’s advanced safety features. If you have any questions about the safety of your vehicle, give us a call or drop by to see us. We’ll let you know just how safe you and your family are – that’s our commitment to you.
