While technologies like hybrid engines and emissions-free vehicles seem to be getting a lot of press recently, that doesn’t mean that innovations are not being made in terms of safety. In fact, the guys at Ford have been hard at work developing new safety braking systems that has the potential to change the way we think about driving.

At some proving grounds in Germany, Ford has been testing out a vehicle-to-vehicle communications system that could help protect drivers and pedestrians. This system allows cars to communicate remotely with one another to warn other drivers about hazards ahead.

For example, if you were driving along and needed to suddenly brake as somebody steps off the curb and into traffic, this system would send a signal to the cars behind you to let them know that the car ahead is slowing down or coming to a stop. This is especially helpful in adverse weather conditions and when a road has turns that place the vehicle in front of you out of sight.

Eventually we would like to see this technology being integrated with the automatic braking systems currently being researched as well. That way if you were to notice the signal too late, your vehicle could automatically apply the brake for you to avoid a crash.

There has been no indication whether or not this new technology will be built into new Ford cars, trucks, and SUVs. anytime soon. If you would like to learn more about the great tech features available in the models currently in our inventory of new and used Ford vehicles here at Athens Ford then please stop by and speak with our staff.
